Streamline modern kitchen VS Relaxed Cottage

I am struggling a bit with where to take my design for my new (eventual) kitchen. If we move I may get the kitchen I've always wanted. But what is that anyway? I adore an eclectic combo of styles that's something a bit more relaxed like these 3 photos below provide.
This first one would be doable if I was not completely renovating the kitchen. Perhaps just ripping out the top cabinetry, adding shelves and new subway tiles, and painting the remainder of the kitchen white or maybe grey.  Probably grey.

This space also shows how a small floor plan can be gorgeous and functional.

I love the combination of natural wood tones and stone wall against  the smooth white finish of the counters. It's modern & rustic.  Pulled together but not too fussy.

If I lived in California. Again, it's a toss up. Mediterranean Farmhouse? I'm not sure exactly what this is but I love it. It's so relaxed and comfortable I think you'd have to kick your guests out at the end of the night.

And now the other side...

So clean, so simple. Nothing out and untidy.  This is truly a perfect kitchen if you do go out to eat a lot. Which I wish I did, if I lived in the city, steps away from fabulous restaurants. But I have three children and do not have that luxury.  Maybe when I am old and grey.

These 2 (above and below) I think is a good compromise. It is modern but relaxed and is minimalist but has shelves allowing you to display your items and keep everyday ones within easy reach.

I guess we will have to see what we end up buying.  Either way, the kitchen is something that is non-negotiable for me.  I'm definitely not buying someone else's renovation. And I refuse to have another melamine kitchen.  I'm very excited to see how this unfolds. To be continued...

xoxoxo,
