Life Lately 08.19.15

There comes a time in everyone's life when you reflect on what you've done, how far you've come, and where you are headed.
I've been reflecting for the past year or so about this and have continuously looked for clues and insights everywhere. It may be a television show I'm watching, or a conversation I am having with a good friend, an image I've pinned, or a blog post I am reading.
I'm not quite sure why I'm searching for something that feels like a (small but albeit) void somewhere inside of me. I don't think I am alone though. I often read self-help, spiritual and business books which are kind of like my mentors.  They truly slow me down and help focus my direction when I feel my head is spinning with thoughts about everything I need to do, or accomplish.

My latest read "Leave Your Mark" had got me thinking today about who I want to be.  Not just career-wise, which was why I bought the book in the first place, but as a person.

I've made myself a small list of things I'd like to work on from this day forward.  At the end of each day I will reflect on my list and see what I can do to change whatever didn't work. I have a cute little journal I'll be writing these thoughts and ideas on.

Here goes!

To have fun! To play everyday, doing something I enjoy that either involves my kids or otherwise. Something special for me.  I've been playing on my guitar again lately and I signed up for a dance class that I've been dying to do for years now!  I need to be creative, whatever form that is. It feels so good to my soul.  I also like to show my kids a different side of me.

To actively listen. To my husband, my children, to everyone.  But it does depend who I am listening to, some people can go on forever, LOL.

To be kind and respectful of people (even when i disagree, practice makes perfect I swear to you!).

To discover my true passion and continue to allow that passion to grow.
Passion is doing something you feel you could not go one day without doing.  I am still discovering that passion which in design can take so many forms. I know writing is definitely a passion and I love combining that with design (hence this blog); but I know this is not enough. I'm not quite there yet.

To write everything down!
I desperately need to get more organized. I have a small secretary desk and below that a file folder that houses all the girls stuff and mine. It can get quite disastrous quickly.  More than that I easily forget about papers etc. I need a better system! I want to carve out a little space for me to do this. It is very hard when your house is small but I think the dining room can definitely double as my office.

It is never too early or too late to reflect on where you want to see yourself in a few years. The more you do something the better you will be at it, so why not do it? If you aren't happy about something, change it. Don't accept it as permanent. Nothing is, and the only one who can propel you into a life or a person you want to be is you! Do one thing. I don't believe you need a plan as much as you need small changes which will ultimately and organically change the course of your life!

What do you think? I'd love to hear any and all of your thoughts!!! Any good reads that have inspired you perhaps?

Also a few inspirational ladies in business to follow that I am currently loving;
