At home with Sandie

I've always wondered what it would feel like to live in an open concept contemporary styled condo; and last week I had the pleasure of viewing a prestigious series of newly constructed condo buildings"Onze de la Gare" in the heart of the new bustling Vaudreuil-Dorion. It is literally across the street from a few dozen shops and outlets, restaurants, spas and home centres.  Sandie contacted me via a friend and I could not be happier to meet with her.  She shares her home with her daughter Amy (15) and husband Sheldon.

High 9 foot exposed concrete ceilings and large polished concrete columns add to the architectural interest of the condo. Floor to ceiling windows enclosed by black metal framing flank the back wall outlooking the town and mountains in the distance.

The 14 foot island (yes 14 feet) overlooks the dining and living space.  They had the microwave tucked into the island to hide it from sight. They chose all the finishes and opted for a wood looking laminate countertop with high gloss cabinetry for a very an ultra modern feel. This kitchen was built for entertaining.

Her husband, is from New Jersey and so is a lot of the furnishings in this home.  This painting is a limited reproduction from an artist in Jersey.

This dining set is from Maurice Villency in NJ.  The mirror on the wall fits this condo so well. It lights up and as it turns it giving the illusion of depth. It is definitely a conversation starter.

The glass door on this unit slides back and forth for easy access and great concealed storage.

Opposite the couch is the entertainment unit. Sleek glossy cabinetry house all their videos.  Solomon the couples' dog sits by the patio door.  Down the hall to the left is their daughter Amy's bathroom and to the right is her bedroom. Further on is the couples' sitting/dressing/reading/exercising area before it opens up to the master bedroom.  This was something the couple chose. They converted the three bedroom into two.

Daughter Amy's room is what every young girl adores-the colour purple!  I love the vintage Nancy Drew books stacked high on the Ikea shelving.

The purple even carries into her bathroom where a purple tray holds some jewellery, hair pins and perfume. This little girl is lucky indeed!

This is the sitting area to the couple's master bedroom retreat.  It is bright and very inviting. Two comfy armchairs are the perfect place for sipping a coffee (which this couple does very often).  How versatile is this Ikea shelving and why don't I own a few of these?  The art deco style dresser is flanked by two Pax closet systems from Ikea. The curves of the dresser play nicely with the boxy large frame of the closets. It just works.

Leading from the sitting area is the bedroom. A privacy screen closes off the room so guests can wander into the sitting area without going into the bedroom.

Sandie and her husband have a second balcony leading off their bedroom.  This combined with the other back patio gives them an almost 360 degree view.

The MasterBath has double vessel sinks with a small enclosed room for the toilet and on the opposite side a large glass shower.

Leading off their main living space is this wonderful retreat. This set is from Trevi and I don't think I could have chosen a more fitting set for this balcony. The lime green plays so well off the black steel and warm wood siding.

Perfect for lounging with a few friends and a few cocktails, am I right?  Thank you so much Sandie & Sheldon for letting me into your condo! I love it!
